Fire guts wooden house in Bekenu

MIRI (July 27): A house in Kampung Masjid Tiris, Bekenu near here was completely destroyed in a fire this morning.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said eight personnel from the Niah fire station were rushed to the scene, located about 37km away, following a distress call at 7.41am.

“The fire involved a non-permanent house measuring 30×24 square feet, which was 100 per cent destroyed. No report of injury was received,” it said in a statement.

Bomba said based on information from the villagers, the owner of the house was not at home when the fire broke out.

Firefighters took about 30 minutes to bring the situation under control.

Overhaul works were carried out to ensure no danger of the fire reigniting, and the operation was concluded at 10am.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
