KUCHING, Aug 22: The Sarawak Sailing Team has made history by earning a bronze medal in the Optimist Team Racing event on the third day of the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) at Marina Bay in Miri.
According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, this marks the first time Sarawak has won a medal in sailing since the State began participating in Sukma.
Head Coach of the Sarawak Sailing Team, Jamil Ali, expressed his pride in the team’s achievement, noting that this is the first medal Sarawak has secured in the Team Racing event.
He described the victory as the best personal achievement in his eight years of coaching the team.
Jamil further expressed hope that this success will inspire the Sarawak team to win more medals in the future.
“Over the past three days, after eight races, we have begun to see the light of success, and I hope that the color of the medals will shift from bronze to silver and from silver to gold,” he added.
However, Jamil acknowledged that the team’s success was also influenced by factors such as weather, wind, and sea conditions.
“The sea plays a crucial role in every race, and I hope the conditions will continue to favor the Sarawak team and the people of Sarawak as a whole,” he said. — DayakDaily
