MIRI (Dec 21): A total of 100 families in Long Bemang, Long Bedian District near here received essential food aid and basic necessities from Maltimur Aktif Unggul JV (MAUJV), the master contractor for the Sarawak-Sabah Link Road Phase 2 (SSLR2).
The donation on Friday came in response to recent floods that struck the remote Baram River settlement on Dec 14, affecting over 550 residents.
During the incident, rising floodwaters forced villagers to urgently move furniture and perishable items to the upper floors of their homes.
Long Bemang is one of several inland communities in northern Sarawak prone to recurring floods during prolonged rainfall, with water levels known to rise up to 1.8 feet.
MAUJV project teams were on hand to personally distribute the contributions.
Village representatives Misel Wan, Vicau Lawai, and Nur Melati accepted the aid on behalf of the community.
Residents expressed gratitude for MAUJV’s timely assistance and hoped for continued cooperation with the company.
In recent weeks, MAUJV and its contractors have been actively supporting communities affected by frequent flooding in areas surrounding the SSLR2 project in northern Sarawak.
