Former Nangka rep Awang Bemee appointed senator

KUCHING (July 15): Former three-term Nangka assemblyman Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah was appointed a senator by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong today.

The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) legal advisor was sworn in before Dewan Negara deputy president Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed.

The 65-year-old’s appointment, which will run for a term of three years, takes effect from today until July 14, 2027.

Awang Bemee previously served as Nangka assemblyman from 1996 to 2011.

The veteran politician, who was born in Sibu, holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) Degree from Universiti Malaya.

He was called to the Bar in 1984.

He has also served as Kuching Port Authority chairman.
