KUCHING, Aug 22: The Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) is stepping up its efforts to educate the public on the dangers of online scams and ways to protect themselves from becoming victims of cybercrime.

According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, MCPF chairman See Chee How stated that an awareness forum will be held to help members of the public protect themselves from becoming victims of cybercrime and become more aware of the threat.

“The forum aims to provide up-to-date information and practical guidance on tackling cybercrime challenges, while enhancing individual cybersecurity.

“This forum will be conducted in both English and Malay. The exact date is yet to be confirmed as we are awaiting the Premier of Sarawak’s confirmation to attend the event in Kuching,” he was quoted as saying.

He added that the initiative will involve collaboration with Bank Negara, the police, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), and various banks.

These institutions will share relevant data and information to bolster the public’s understanding of cyber threats.

See shared these insights during a media interview following a courtesy visit to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia yesterday (Aug 21).

He noted that the Premier offered valuable advice on effective ways to carry out crime prevention programmes, demonstrating his strong support for MCPF’s initiatives.

“The State Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPN) will collaborate with MCPF to ensure that every preventive and safety measure is effectively implemented, ensuring that Sarawak remains a safe and peaceful place for all,” he added.

Also present during the visit were MCPF vice-chairman Lukas Aket and MCPF members, including Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon. — DayakDaily
