SIBU (July 16): A locally produced film, ‘No More Drugs’, will be screened for free at several locations here from Aug 23 to 27.
According to its producer Ling Ing Ung, the entire production team, including the cast and behind-the-scenes crew members, are all from Sarawak.
“This is a 100 per cent Sarawakian production in which the filming crew, editors, screenwriters, costume designers, talents, gaffers, and more, are all Sarawakians,” he told a press conference here recently.
Speaking on the film, Ling said it was based on a true story about a former local gang leader, notoriously known as ‘David Hii’, and his past involvement in drug distribution and gambling.
“David also introduced drugs to schools, leading the youths into a hallucinatory world that shifted their lives into a different deplorable path,” said Ling.
Noting the rise of drug abuse in his community, Ling said its influences had dire consequences on the youths, often without them realising it.
“Drug abuse cases are continuously increasing in our society, creating challenging and difficult lives for the future generations affected by it.
“Through this anti-drug film, we hope to raise public awareness of the dangers of drug and gambling,” he said.
Moreover, Ling expressed hope that the narrative would encourage its audience to reject drugs and gambling activities; thus, creating a safer future for the community.
The Lions Club of Sibu Seduan and the Malaysian Christian Youth Association (MCYA) Sarawak branch are part of the teams arranging for the screening of ‘No More Drugs’, with Doremart sponsoring the 14 showtimes here.
The screening venues for ‘No More Drugs’ are at SMK Sacred Heart (1pm showtime on Aug 23) and King’s Trioplex (7pm, VVIP only); the Logos Methodist Church (7.15pm showtime on Aug 24) and King’s Trioplex (7.15pm, VVIP only); Sibu Wei Kuok Hall (11am, 2pm, 4pm and 7pm showtimes on Aug 25) and University Technology Sarawak (1pm, 3pm, 5pm and 7.30pm showtimes); En Dao Methodist Church (7.15pm showtime on Aug 26); and SMK Methodist (1pm showtime on Aug 27).
