KUCHING (July 14): The 10th World Congress of Herpetology (WCH10) is set to be taking place at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), this Aug 5 to 9.

This event will host 1,400 delegates from 70 countries, making it the largest gathering of herpetology experts in Malaysia’s history.

According to Business Events Sarawak (BES), which won the WCH10 hosting bid for Sarawak, the congress will feature expert speakers from around the world who will present to the attendees a wide range of topics on conservation, ecology, physiology, behaviour and evolution of ‘herpetofauna’.

BES chief executive officer Amelia Roziman remarked: “WCH10 aims to bring together leading researchers, scientists, conservationists and enthusiasts to share knowledge, research findings, and expertise related to reptiles and amphibians.

“This congress is a unique opportunity for herpetology professionals from across the globe to come together to exchange ideas, collaborate on research projects and discuss the latest trends in the field.

“We are excited to host this event in Kuching, a city known for its rich biodiversity and stunning natural landscapes throughout Sarawak and look forward to welcoming delegates from around the world to our city.”

In addition to keynote presentations and panel discussions, WCH10 will also feature workshops, networking events and field trips to local herpetological sites.

Delegates will have the opportunity to engage with their peers, learn from leading experts and contribute to the global conversation on the conservation and study of reptiles and amphibians.

The WCH10 director Prof Dr Indraneil said: “The event will be a groundbreaking and transformative experience for all attendees and anticipated its impact on the field of herpetology.”
