KUCHING (Oct 17): A 33-year-old woman was sentenced to four months in jail today for stealing RM20,000 worth of items belonging to her 64-year-old British boyfriend.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali convicted Nurfazella Sulaiman on her own guilty plea to a charge under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to 10 years’ jail and also a possible fine.

The unemployed woman committed the offence at a hotel here around 7.50pm on Sept 12.

Based on the facts of the case, the victim and Nurfazella left the hotel at around 6pm for an evening out.

He returned to the hotel alone at 9pm and, upon entering his room, discovered his personal belongings such as a tablet, camera, lens, bank card, and credit card missing from a table where he had placed them.

Following a police report lodged, Nurfazella was arrested on Sept 28.

A check of the hotel’s security camera footage showed Nurfazella returning to the hotel at around 7.50pm and making a phone call at the hotel’s front desk.

She then convinced a staff member to allow her access to the victim’s room on the pretext that she had forgotten her keys.

The footage also showed her leaving the hotel with the items via the stairs.

An investigation by police found that Nurfazella had sold some of the stolen items prior to her arrest.

Prosecuting the case was ASP Arman Ibrahim, while the accused was unrepresented by legal counsel.
