Cables connecting the Christmas tree lights cut off.
KUCHING (Dec 23): La Promenade Christmas Street’s festive lights have gone dark after the main electrical cables were cut and stolen at around midnight on Monday.
In a statement, Hock Seng Lee (HSL) said the mall’s security guards first noticed a power outage, and checks conducted the following morning confirmed the theft.
HSL Tower’s senior mechanical and engineering officer Clinton Jawa Richardly said the security team is lodging a police report.
“We’re working round the clock to repair the damage,” he said, adding that while repairs are underway, the lights will remain off for safety reasons, likely for two nights.
“We aim to have the full Christmas Street décor back on by Dec 25,” he said.
Clinton assured that scheduled events on Christmas Day, such as snowfall and a free night run, will proceed as planned.
“The scheduled CJC Christmas Night Run, which is free and open to all, will take place at 6:45pm on Christmas Day as usual,” he added.
