KUCHING (July 28): The police are investigation a 25-year-old local man for allegedly lodging a false police report.
Kota Samarahan district police chief DSP Jaimi Husin said the suspect lodged the police report at the Asajaya police station around 12pm on July 26, claiming that he was recently robbed in Asajaya.
“The suspect claimed that four men on three motorcycles, whose types and registration numbers were unknown, robbed him while wearing helmets and face masks,” said Jaimi in a statement today.
The suspect also claimed that he lost RM1,000 in cash, his identification card, an ATM card, and his Class D driving licence, he added.
“However, after further interrogation, police determined that the robbery never occurred. The individual admitted to filing the false report to avoid paying the fine for a replacement identification card from the National Registration Department (JPN),” Jaimi said.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of RM2,000 or up to six months in prison, or both, upon conviction.
Meanwhile, Jaimi reminded the public not to lodge a false police report as such action can create a false perception of increased crime in the district.
He warned that strict actions would be taken against anyone found engaging in such activities.
