KUCHING, Sept 16: All primary and secondary schools in the Lubok Antu district will resume normal operations tomorrow (Sept 17), following an assessment of the latest Air Pollutant Index (API) readings and weather conditions.

The Sarawak Education Department (JPN Sarawak) said the decision was made based on API readings recorded on the Department of Environment’s Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) as of 7am today, as well as reports from the Malaysian Meteorological Department.

It said all schools under the supervision of the Lubok Antu District Education Office (PPD) would operate as usual from Thursday.

“Any changes or latest updates will be communicated from time to time,” JPN Sarawak said in a statement today.

The department said it continued to prioritise the welfare, health and safety of students, particularly when dealing with hot weather or other unforeseen weather conditions.

However, parents and guardians may choose not to send their children to school if they have concerns about their health due to the haze that continues to affect several areas in Sarawak.

Parents or guardians who make such a decision are advised to inform the school accordingly.

JPN Sarawak reiterated that the health, safety and well-being of all members of its education community remained a priority. — DayakDaily
