LUBOK ANTU: All primary and secondary schools under the supervision of the Lubok Antu District Education Office (PPD) will resume normal operations on Thursday (Sept 17) following an improvement in air quality in the district.
The Sarawak Education Department (JPN Sarawak) said the decision was made based on Air Pollutant Index (API) readings recorded on the Department of Environment’s Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) as of 7am today, as well as the latest report from the Malaysian Meteorological Department.
JPN Sarawak said any changes or latest updates on the situation would be announced from time to time.
The department also stressed that the welfare, health and safety of students remained a priority, particularly during hot weather or unforeseen weather conditions.
“Parents and guardians are allowed not to send their children under their care to school if they have concerns about their children’s health due to the haze which is still affecting several locations in Sarawak, provided that they inform the school authorities accordingly,” it said in a statement.
JPN Sarawak said it remained committed to safeguarding the health, safety and well-being of all members of the education community.
