MIRI: Curtin Malaysia students came together to raise awareness about the challenges faced by individuals with physical disabilities here recently.

Students also showcased how ethical media can uplift underserved communities.

The event was held at the Miri Association of Persons with Physical Disabilities’ centre in Piasau Camp.

As part of their community media production course assignment, the students brought together the association’s community for a day of exciting games, activities, and bonding.

Dr Marcelo Schellini, the course lecturer, stressed the importance of using media to highlight the rights and needs of individuals with impairments, who are often overlooked in society.

“Our students created multimedia content – videos, photos, social media posts – that will boost the association’s online presence and raise awareness of its efforts,” he said.

“This not only enhances their visibility but also creates lasting digital assets to further their cause.”

Founded in 2016, the association is a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting the needs and aspirations of those with physical disabilities in the Miri area.
