Meth possession lands man in Kuching with RM2,500 fine

KUCHING (Aug 22): A 37-year-old man was fined RM2,500 in default six months in jail after pleading guilty in the Magistrates’ Court here today to a charge of possessing drugs.

Nathanael Stephen entered the plea after the charge under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act, was read to him before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan.

He committed the offence at a parking space of a house in Taman Home Mart, Batu Kawa here at around 3pm on Jan 6, 2023.

Based on the facts of the case, police detained Nathanael on suspicion of involvement in drug-related activities and, upon inspecting his fanny pack, found a plastic packet containing substance believed to be drugs.

A chemist report dated Feb 15, 2023 confirmed the substance to be methamphetamine weighing 0.14 grammes.

The case was prosecuted by ASP Arman Ibrahim, while Nathanael did not have legal representation.
