KUCHING: The Bung Bratak Heritage Association (BBHA) is calling for more greening efforts in the Bung Bratak area.

BBHA chairman, Datuk Peter Minos said the association is actively seeking collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) to enhance tree planting and greening efforts in and around the Bung Bratak hills and mountains.

He made this suggestion following a strategic planning brainstorming session with UNIMAS vice-chancellor and senior staff on the history of Bung Bratak held at Bung Bratak Heritage Centre yesterday (July 27).

“Anything on forest conservation and rehabilitation is a passion to me because of global warming and climate change.

“If everyone in the world planted a tree each year, it will help mitigate global warming.
Unfortunately, many people are not concerned, and this is the problem,” he said.

Looking at the severe heat currently happening this month, Minos stressed the urgency of tree planting and greening.

“While we may have limited power to stop industrial nations from polluting the world with carbon emissions, we can contribute by planting trees that produce oxygen,” he said.

“Bung Bratak mountain is considered one of the ‘green lungs’ of Kuching, and I urged the local residents to appreciate and support tree planting and forest conservation efforts in the area,” he said.

He said looking 100 years ahead, and if positive action is not taken against global warming, the people may not survive the extreme heat.

“Life on earth could be gone forever,” he said.
