New Spaoh police station completed to enhance local community safety

SPAOH: The completion of the new Spaoh police station demonstrates the Sarawak government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the local community.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said this also reflects the Sarawak government’s dedication to meeting the current needs of the police force and the people of Spaoh.

“As proof, through the allocation under the Sarawak government’s Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), the Spaoh police station was completed at a cost of RM7,445,888.

“The concern shown by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also the Bukit Saban Assemblyman, sparked the idea and proposal, and he personally monitored the project’s progress until it was fully completed,” he said.

He said this at the opening of the new Spaoh police station here yesterday.

He noted that a conducive working environment significantly impacts employee commitment.

“A comfortable working environment can enhance efficiency, safety, and occupational health, thereby ensuring the quality of services provided to the community.

“Therefore, the construction of this police station aligns with the requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994, as well as current needs,” he added.

The Spaoh police station, spanning 5,850 square feet, is built on a 1.52-hectare plot and was completed on June 16, 2023. It is equipped with an administration building (with holding cells), an evidence storage room, Class F quarters, a guardhouse, and a covered vehicle garage.

It was handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) on Aug 8, 2023, and began full operations on Aug 18, 2023.

The station is led by a sergeant and a team of five personnel responsible for covering the administrative area, which includes Spaoh town, 10 Malay villages, two Chinese villages, and 39 longhouses.

Meanwhile, the old station near Sungai Paku has been proposed to be turned into a police history museum.

Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Ibrahim Darus and Betong District police chief Zamry Alli were also present.
