Chiew places his thumb on the scanner to report for duty as deputy minister.
MIRI (Dec 22): Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Chiew Choon Man said that there would be no ‘honeymoon’ period for him and that he will immediately get to work.
He said his immediate priority after reporting for duty on Monday morning was to assist the ministry in strengthening the nation’s tourism, arts and culture sectors by addressing the current challenges and preparations for Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2026.
“This appointment comes more than three years into the 15th Parliamentary term. Therefore, there is no room for delay. I must get to work and carry out this responsibility to the best of my ability,” he said in a statement yesterday.
He added with VMY 2026 as the key national agenda, he would be working closely with Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing and all ministry personnel to ensure every policy is implemented effectively, inclusively, and directly impacts the people.
Chiew also hoped his appointment could be a platform to continue championing the interests of Sarawak, particularly Miri, so the tourism, arts and culture there continues to receive attention and be further strengthened at both the national and international level.
He also expressed his appreciation to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Mirians for their continued support and trust, while affirming the mandate entrusted to him would be carried out with full dedication, integrity, and responsibility.
