Zulkipli says the aim of the operation is to ensure that all secondhand premises owners comply with the Second-hand Dealers Act, not to buy or keep any stolen items and obtain the relevant license to operate.

SIBU (July 20): The police here have taken action against several premises selling used items and scraps for dealing with stolen items.

In a statement today, Sibu Police Chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said this was following an interagency crime prevention inspection, Op Lusuh Inter-Agensi IPD Sibu, at 17 premises on July 18-19.

During the operation, he said one arrest was made under Section 379 of the Penal Code for suspected possession of stolen motorcycle parts, three premises charged under Section 6 of the Second-hand Dealers Act 1946 for not having valid business licence, and one premises compounded by the Health Office for breeding mosquitoes.

The integrated operation was between the police and the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC), Sibu Health Office, Sibu Immigration Office, Land and Survey Department, Sarawak Energy, Sibu Water Board, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission Sibu, TM-Telekom Sibu, other telco companies, and the Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC).

Zulkipli said the aim of the operation is to ensure that all secondhand premises owners comply with the Second-hand Dealers Act, not to buy or keep any stolen items and obtain the relevant license to operate.

“The police are committed in the effort to resolve cases related to cable theft, substation theft, battery theft, iron or copper theft, and vehicle theft.

“This ongoing cooperation with various agencies aims to enhance security in the Sibu Division and to reduce the crime rate,” he said.
