IPOH (July 16): The main suspect remanded to help with the investigation of the murder of 25-year-old Nur Farah Kartini Abdullah is a lance corporal, Perak police chief Commissioner Datuk Azizi Mat Aris confirmed today.

Azizi said that the suspect is attached to the Slim River police station.

“I can confirm that the civil servant remanded in this case is a police personnel (member).

“The suspect has been serving in the force for about five years,” he told a press conference here.

Earlier news reports only described the suspect as a 26-year-old civil servant, who is believed to have been the boyfriend of Nur Farah Kartini and that he was remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation into her suspected murder.

The investigation is being conducted under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries a death penalty.

According to the Malay news outlet Kosmo! Online, the suspect was arrested at the Gedangsa Police Station in Kuala Kubu Baru, Selangor.

Nur Farah Kartini, originally from Miri, Sarawak, was reported missing on July 11 after delivering a rental car to a customer in Taman Universiti, Tanjung Malim, Perak.

She was last seen wearing a blue jeans Muslimah corporate outfit, a headscarf, and black pants.

Yesterday, Kosmo! Online reported Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan as saying Nur Farah Kartini’s body was found in an oil palm plantation in Kampung Sri Kledang, Hulu Selangor, around 6pm. — Malay Mail
