KUCHING (July 26): There is no need for Julau MP Datuk Larry Sng to meddle in the affairs of Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sarawak, particularly Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak, said PKR state leadership council (MPN) information chief Tay Wei Wei @ Naga Libau.
According to Tay, this is because Sng is no longer the chairman of the PKR MPN Sarawak.
“Regarding the statement by Sng who suggested that it would be better for PH Sarawak to join GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak), I believe it is more appropriate for him to focus on his own party, PBM (Parti Bangsa Malaysia), which only won one parliamentary seat.
“There is no need for him to interfere in the affairs of PH Sarawak, especially PKR Sarawak, since he is no longer the chairman of PKR MPN Sarawak,” Tay said in a statement.
Tay was responding to Sng’s recent post on his Facebook page where the latter suggested that if PH wants to continue to rule after the next general election, they should take Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg seriously.
“It is nonsensical for PMX (Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) to give in to all of Sarawak’s demands and yet fight GPS in the state election, of which they cannot win.
“PH supporters in Sarawak must realise that their political interests are superseded by national interests and it’s best for them to join GPS or other local based parties instead.
“The reality is this (federal) government needs GPS more than it needs PH Sarawak!” Sng, who is also the president of PBM, added in his post.
Elaborating further, Tay asserted that PKR Sarawak does not support ‘political frogs’.
“There is no need to engage in cheap publicity by trying to create friction between GPS and PH Sarawak,” he said.
Tay acknowledged that there is indeed no cooperation between GPS and PKR in Sarawak, as cooperation only exists at the federal level within the Unity Government.
“However, it is inaccurate to say that PH Sarawak, represented by DAP and PKR Sarawak, does not exist because PH Sarawak has representatives in Parliament and the Sarawak Legislative Assembly.
“History has also shown that PH Sarawak has won many parliamentary and state seats,” he said in response to a news article saying that Abang Johari had jokingly claimed that DAP and PKR did not exist in Sarawak.
According to Tay, PKR Sarawak is always cautious in maintaining good relations between parties within the Unity Government.
“But that does not mean we are willing to accept mockery or insults from other parties towards the ‘Prime Minister’s party’,” said Tay.
