KUCHING, Oct 19: Sarawak should have received a bigger allocation than Sabah in the Budget 2025, according to political analyst Dato Peter Minos.

In a statement today, Minos pointed out that the Federal Government has allocated RM6.7 billion for Sabah’s development and RM5.9 billion for Sarawak, despite Sarawak being larger in size and having a larger population.

“It doesn’t seem quite fair. Why not a 50-50 split? Logically, Sarawak should get more. We’re not begrudging Sabah, but fairness is the issue here,” Minos said.

He also commented on the overall budget, highlighting that 70.6 per cent (RM335 billion) of the RM421.6 billion in Budget 2025 will be spent on operational costs, while only RM86 billion (20.4 per cent) is set aside for development.

Minos expressed concern over the large portion of the budget dedicated to civil service payments, noting that Malaysia’s civil service is bloated and unsustainable in the long term.

“Something needs to be done,” he added. — DayakDaily
