KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 19): Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg expresses his hope that the five Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS) members who went missing after a regatta training mishap yesterday can be found soon.

Saying that he has yet to receive the final update, he asserted that the disaster committee is still searching for the victims.

“I have yet to receive the final update, but the disaster committee is still searching.

“The problem is that the water is somewhat murky, and the current is strong.

“We hope they will be found soon,” he told reporters after a townhall session in conjunction with the Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak (LBAS) at Mitec here today.

The missing rowers were identified as Mohammad Ikhmal Sama’ail, 34; Majurie Maharuf, 32; Mohd Afiq Isyamudin Asaari, 26; Mohamad Khairul Bidin, 26; and Muhammad Khairul Hisham Kasturi, 23.

Police have confirmed that all five are members of the UKPS team from the Premier’s Department.
