KUCHING, June 7: Sarawak Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting has been honoured with the Seoul International Travel Fair (SITF) Eminent Tourism Pioneer Award in recognition of his contributions to the development of the tourism sector.
According to a report by TVS, the award was presented during a ceremony held at Il-Hwa-Dang, Samcheonggak in Seoul, South Korea, on June 4 in conjunction with the 41st anniversary celebration of the Seoul International Travel Fair.
The prestigious accolade recognises influential tourism leaders who have played a significant role in shaping a sustainable and inclusive global tourism landscape through their dedication and impactful contributions to the industry.
The award is presented annually to selected individuals from South Korea and abroad who demonstrate exceptional commitment and make substantial contributions to the advancement of the global tourism industry. Recipients are chosen through a stringent evaluation process conducted by the SITF Tourism Awards Committee.
This year, Ting was among seven recipients honoured with the award, alongside distinguished tourism figures from South Korea and several other countries, including Sri Lanka Deputy Minister of Tourism Prof Ruwan Ranasinghe.
The recognition underscores Ting’s efforts in promoting Sarawak as a tourism destination and supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening the State’s tourism industry on the international stage.
Now in its 41st year, the Seoul International Travel Fair has established itself as one of South Korea’s premier tourism exhibitions, serving as a platform to connect global tourism stakeholders, promote international destinations, and foster cross-border cooperation within the tourism sector. — DayakDaily
