SIBU, 11 Oct: Young entrepreneurs will continue to be supported after completing training through the Sarawak Youth SYstartUP Program, including through monitoring and follow-up support to help them grow their businesses.
Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Development Sarawak, Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat said that continued support is essential to help entrepreneurs overcome challenges as well as get additional boost when their business reaches a certain level of growth.
According to him, the Sarawak Youth SYstartUP Program is designed to develop new entrepreneurs among young people by providing basic knowledge and skills of entrepreneurship, starting from the early stages of business establishment.
"This is a program that we see in our efforts to develop new entrepreneurs, young entrepreneurs who are just starting out, where we want to educate them from the beginning, from the stage of getting business licenses, planning, capital as well as the process of skills improvement and business expansion", he said in a press conference after the closing ceremony of Sarawak Youth SYstartUP Kohort 3 2026 here today.
He added that the programme also emphasizes digital marketing and technopreneurship, which is entrepreneurship that leverages technology to increase productivity and business capacity.
"We're focusing on technopreneurs, entrepreneurs who use technology and adapt technology to increase their productivity and business capacity.
"The eight-day intensive programme covers various aspects of entrepreneurship to equip participants with the knowledge needed to start and manage businesses", he said.
He said the infrastructure development and improvement of connectivity networks in Sarawak should be leveraged by young entrepreneurs to develop their businesses as well as expand their product markets.
Commenting on the Federal Budget 2027, in particular increasing allocation to Sarawak to RM16.2 billion and planning of Sibu Economic Zone that can be utilised by young entrepreneurs, he said youth also need to identify potential economic resources in their respective areas to determine appropriate business areas to be diversified.
He believes that areas with potential in the agriculture and livestock sector can focus on those areas.
"For example, areas like Subis, Lambir and Bekenu have potential in agriculture and farming sectors, while young people interested in venturing into the oil and gas industry can explore opportunities in Bintulu and Miri", he added.
He said his ministry also played a role in shaping and educating youth with basic knowledge as well as entrepreneurial guidance to help them venture into the business field.
He said that knowledge is an essential foundation in any field to be promoted and youth should equip themselves with sufficient knowledge to take advantage of the economic opportunities available.
A total of 140 participants attended SYstartUP Kohort 3 in Sibu, which is the third implementation of the program after the first cohort in Kuching in December 2024 and the second cohort in Miri in November 2025.-TVS
