MIRI (Oct 18): The Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (Sheda) Home and Property Roadshow 2024 officially kicked off at Bintang Megamall here today.
Expressing his optimism about the future of the city’s property market, Mayor Adam Yii pointed to Miri’s ongoing development as a source of vast opportunities for both homebuyers and investors.
“This expo is a showcase of what’s possible when creativity meets ambition. From sustainable building practices to cutting edge designs, every exhibit here is a glimpse into the future of urban living.
“I am incredibly proud of the strides we have made in making our Miri city a model of progress, modernity and prosperity,” he said in his opening address.
He also addressed the roles and responsibilities of Miri City Council (MCC), affirming the council’s commitment to streamlining approval processes such as building plan applications and occupation permits to avoid unnecessary delays.
Yii also emphasised the importance of infrastructure development, particularly in improving road access to the city, and stressed the need for ongoing communication with Sheda to address any concerns raised by its Miri branch members.
Meanwhile in his speech, Sheda Miri chairman James Hii reflected on what had been a positive year for the region.
He pointed to several major developments, including the deepening of Miri Port, the approval of Miri Airport’s expansion project, the opening of One Shell Square Miri, and the announcement of a new convention centre in Kenyalang Smart City.
He also highlighted the ongoing exploration work at Block SK433, located onshore in Sarawak, as a further sign of the local economy’s recovery and progress.
Hii linked these developments to Sarawak’s Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030, introduced by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in 2021.
He also highlighted the increasing introduction of new development concepts such as landed strata and business parks, as well as advanced construction methods like the Industrialised Building System and artificial intelligence.
These innovations, according to him, are essential in ensuring that Miri remains on track to becoming a developed and livable city.
At the same time, Hii urged the Sarawak and federal governments to continue supporting policies that assist first-time homebuyers, particularly those from the low- and middle-income groups.
The Sheda Home & Property Roadshow 2024 features exhibitors such as SP Universal Sdn Bhd, Green Summit Development Sdn Bhd, Mutiara Mortgage & Credit Sdn Bhd, To-Day Institute, IQI Realty Sdn Bhd, Jiajaya Sdn Bhd, Azmi & Co Estate Agency Sdn Bhd, Express Property Management & Services, Cahaya Mata Properties, RJ Realty Sdn Bhd, Pavilion Electrical, Amhome Flooring Sdn Bhd, Earth Vista Sdn Bhd, Naim Land, and Shin Yang Construction Sdn Bhd.
