KUCHING (Oct 19): Six out of eight finalists of the Malaysia-China 50th Anniversary Short Video Contest hail from Kuching, with the remaining from Sibu and Penang.
The Sarawak-China Friendship Association (SCFA) in a press release today named them as Cherish Wong Rui, Siew Thiam Lok, Amy Fong Jin Ain, Hon Poh Hian, Chong Sze Jun and Dickson Ng as well as Richard Lau Lee Siong (Sibu) and Danny Ko Chern Ming (Penang).
The first prize winner will bring home RM15,000, a round-trip to China worth RM6,000 including airfare and accommodation, and a certificate during the 50th Anniversary of Malaysia-China Diplomatic Relations and the 30th Anniversary of the Chinese Consulate in Kuching dinner slated for Nov 8.
The second prize comes with RM10,000 and a certificate while the third prize is RM8,000 and a certificate. There are also five consolation prizes of RM1,000 and a certificate each.
SCFA also announced Danny Ko from Penang, Raees Fahry Famy (Kuching) and Lee Kok Weng (Ipoh) as the lucky draw winners. They will each be awarded a round trip to China worth RM6,000 including airfare and accommodation.
These winners were shortlisted during a live draw on Facebook earlier today, said SCFA.
The contest, which began on April 27 this year, asked participants to create short videos showcasing the friendly relationship between Sarawak and China, highlighting achievements in trade, education, culture and tourism.
The organising committee received a total of 38 submissions and following review, 27 qualifying entries proceeded to the judging phase and were also eligible for a lucky draw.
The lucky draw prizes, which are valid until April 30 next year, are non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash.
