SRI AMAN (Dec 22): The ‘Strike Zone: Battle of the Slingers 2025’ received encouraging participation, with the participating teams coming not only from this division, but also from Kuching, Samarahan, Saratok and Betong.

It was staged on Dewan Sri Lemanak here last weekend.

The organisers, in a statement, viewed the strong turnout as highlighting the sport’s growing appeal and its potential for wider development.

“The event had successfully created a lively atmosphere as it brought together youths from various backgrounds, all showing the spirit of healthy competition,” it said, as reported by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).

Lingga assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor was present to officiate at the event.

Carried out for the first time by the Lingga branch of United Sarawak National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) in collaboration with Simanggang Slingers Club, the competition served not only as a platform to identify young talents, but also to hone the skills, strengthen the mental resilience and cultivate sportsmanship among the participating youths.

“This, in turn, contributed to ongoing efforts to strengthen unity and cohesion within the community,” said the organisers.

In addition to the competitive element, the programme also functioned as a positive social interaction platform, with the involvement of youths and their families creating an inclusive and harmonious environment, they added.
