Sukma XXI: Clarkson Evans wins Sarawak’s first boxing gold medal

KUCHING (Aug 22): Clarkson Evans Tom Frankie won Sarawak’s first boxing gold in the Men’s 45-48 kg category after beating Kedah’s Thanasekaran Rajendran this evening.

Clarkson scored a dominant win over Thanasekaran with a perfect 10 from all judges after three rounds.

With the win, Clarkson has fulfilled Malaysia Games (Sukma) XXI pre tournament expectations of gold for Sarawak.

Clarkson vs Thanasekaran fight was also the first fight of the Sukma XXI boxing finals where eight matches for gold medals were contested.

Apart from Clarkson, there were five other Sarawakian boxers who had bouts last night at the Simanggang Indoor Stadium.

They are Lam Wee Liang, Anderton Teck Hieng Tie, Gideon Riquelme Jonathan, Patricia Jaquilina Bruce and Hamiesha Hamdan.
