KUCHING (Aug 22): The Federal Territories (FT) clinched the women’s kabaddi gold at the 2024 Malaysia Games (Sukma), finishing the competition undefeated at the Lundu Community Hall here.
The WiPERS squad ended their campaign with 18 points after six bouts, while Selangor took the silver with 15 points.
Kabaddi Association of Malaysia (KAM) president M.Sathasivam, however, said the bronze medal was awarded to Perak after a tiebreaker.
Both Perak and Kedah ended with nine points, but Perak claimed the bronze based on a 58-point score advantage (217/159) compared to Kedah with 42 (240/198).
“The women’s competition followed a league format this year, with only seven teams participating. Kabaddi returned to Sukma since its debut in 2013,” he told Bernama.
Sarawak, meanwhile surprised many in the competition, advancing to the men’s team semi-finals after topping Group A with 12 points.
They will face second-placed Federal Territories in tomorrow’s semi-finals, while Group B winners Perak will challenge Selangor.
The final for both men’s and women’s events takes place tomorrow. – Bernama
