KUCHING: Sarawakian athletes competing in the 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA) Sarawak 2024 who win gold medals are expected to receive incentives from the state government.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced that the State government plans to reward gold medalists with incentives, though he did not disclose the amount.
“We will definitely provide incentives. I will discuss the details with my cabinet to determine the rewards for athletes who win gold.
“I prefer not to reveal the amount at this time to avoid causing any offense to other states,” he said at a press conference after handing over the Sarawak flag to SUKMA Sarawak’s contingent head at Raia Hotel & Convention Centre today.
The Premier reiterated that the State government would certainly proceed with the plan, adding that the incentive might even be better than other states.
Earlier, Abang Johari presented the Ibu Pertiwi to Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, the chef de mission of the Sarawak contingent.
Present at the event were Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.
Also present were State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and Deputy State Secretary Datuk Hii Chang Kee.
