KUCHING (Aug 23): Sarawak’s swimming sensation Kelly Teo Yao secures her sixth gold medal in the women’s 1500m freestyle on the last day of Sukma XXI aquatic events.
Kelly clocked an impressive time of 17:56.21, outpacing her closest competitor, Sabah’s Chu Xin Ying, who finished with a time of 18:10.61.
Penang’s Yeoh Yun Xuan took bronze, clocking in at 18:19.76.
This latest victory adds to Kelly’s already illustrious performance at the games, where she has previously won gold in the 200m freestyle (2:05.12), 200m backstroke (2:18.47), 400m individual medley (5:02.95), 800m freestyle (9:23.77), and 400m freestyle (4:31.85).
In addition to her gold medals, Kelly also earned a bronze in the 100m backstroke, with a time of 1:07.38
Meanwhile, Kelly’s Sarawak teammate, Hii Puong Wei won Gold in the men’s 100m backstroke with a time of 57.87.
Selangor’s Teo Kar Chuan took silver in that event with a time of 59.06, while David Lee Boon secured the bronze at 59.75.
This is his second Gold. In earlier events, Hii clinched gold in the men’s 200m backstroke, setting a new Games record with a time of 2:06.59, breaking the previous meet record of 2:07.00.
