SIBU (Aug 23): Sarawak’s badminton players are through to the semi-finals of the women’s singles and mixed doubles of the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma XXI) .
Wong Ling Ching led the charge after winning her quarterfinal match against Negeri Sembilan’s Ung Yi Xing at the Sibu Indoor Stadium this morning.
Ling Ching put up a strong fight to win in straight sets 21-8 and 21-19.
She will go against Siti Nurshuhaini Azman from Selangor in the semi-finals at 4pm today.
Sarawak mixed doubles pair Jeremy Juan Zhen Liang and Genevie Lim Tsin Yeen marched to the semifinals after defeating Mohammad Adam Shaz Mohd Shazlan and Lee Yu Shan from Selangor this afternoon.
They won 22-20 in the first set and 21-18 in the second set.
The pair will face Penang’s Tan Wei Liang and Khor Jing Wen in the semi-final starting at 4pm.
Meanwhile, Sarawak’s fight for a medal for the men’s singles event ended today after Goh Shun Huat was knocked out by Penang’s Ong Zhen Yi 17-21 and 14-21.
