Sukma XXI: Sarawak women’s rugby sevens team reaches finals after defeating Terengganu 5-0

MIRI (Aug 22): Sarawak’s women’s rugby sevens team has reached the finals of the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma XXI) event, guaranteeing them at least a silver medal.

In the semifinals this morning, the team continued to demonstrate incredible defence tactics, prevailing over Terengganu 5-0.

Sarawak’s Cuthberta Entai overcame Terengganu’s defensive line to score a try just three minutes into the first round.

Despite being unable to break through again, they managed to prevent the opposition from scoring to set up a final battle against Selangor around 2.50pm today at the Miri Outdoor Stadium.

None of Sarawak’s opponents have managed to score against this team so far except for Johor.

During the opening match on Monday, the Sarawak team impressively defeated defending champions Kedah 34-0.

In their second preliminary match, the team defeated Melaka 26-0, while during the third the team won 14-5 against Johor.

The team continued to shut out the opposition in the quarter finals, defeating Federal Territories 21-0.
