MIRI (Aug 3): Swift action from members of the public here has prevented further damage to a house after its kitchen caught fire early this morning.

In a statement, a spokesperson from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said a distress call was received around 5.56am and a team of seven personnel from Miri Central fire station was dispatched to the location at Lorong 8 in Taman Tunku.

“Upon reaching, it was found that the fire in the kitchen area was extinguished by members of the public.

“Thereafter, Bomba personnel did an overall observation at the scene to ensure it was completely safe,” said the Bomba spokesperson.

The statement added that the fire affected five per cent of the house structure and did not involve any injury.

The cause and loss from the incident are still under investigation.
