Teen driver succumbs to injuries in fatal crash

MIRI: An 18-year-old youth, who was involved in a single-car collision at Jalan Tanjong Lobang last night succumbed to his injuries two hours later at the hospital here.

The accident occurred at approximately 11.45 pm.

Miri District police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed the fatal accident, stating it involved a Proton Saga driven by the teenager.

According to police investigation, the vehicle was travelling from Luak towards Marina when it lost control and collided with a tree on the road divider, resulting in severe damage to the left side of the car.

The driver was rushed to Miri Hospital for treatment of serious injuries but was pronounced dead at 1.35 am on August 3.

The police have opened an investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
