Temporary road closures in Kuching this Saturday for Sukma XXI closing ceremony

KUCHING (Aug 23): Several roads here will be temporarily closed to make way for tomorrow’s Sukma XXI closing ceremony at the Sarawak Stadium.

Kuching police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah in a statement yesterday said the Aug 24 road closures will take effect from 3pm.

The affected roads include the Sesco roundabout, Kesuma Resort roundabout, Sumber Alam junction to Stadium Perpaduan, the front and back entrance to Stadium Perpaduan from Jalan Stadium, the entrance to Stadium Perpaduan from Jalan Diplomatik (in front of Aquatic Centre), entrance lane to Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre 1 and 2, entrance lane to Padang Gasing, Jalan Diplomatik (Squash Centre), entrance lane to bus parking lot (next to Sarawak Stadium), and Jalan Stadium (Ring)/junction to the public parking.

“In order to reach the designated public parking area, those coming the Sesco roundabout are advised to make a U-turn at the Casuarina roundabout and proceed along Jalan Casuarina to enter the junction of Jalan Stadium (Ring).

“Vehicles traveling along Jalan Diplomatik can enter the parking area directly behind Sarawak Stadium,” he said.

To exit the stadium area, Mohd Farhan said vehicles from the Sarawak Stadium parking area should exit via Jalan Diplomatik towards Demak, while those from Jalan Stadium (Ring) should exit via Jalan Stadium (Ring) towards Jalan Casuarina.

He urged the public not to park their vehicles along the roadside, and to plan their journey accordingly by choosing alternative routes to alleviate traffic congestion.
