KUCHING, May 31: Sarawak Governor (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has called on Sarawakians to continue nurturing the spirit of understanding and mutual respect that has long underpinned the State’s stability, peace and progress.
In a Wesak Day message today, Tun Wan Junaidi said the Buddhist celebration carries a profound message of peace, compassion, tolerance and concern for others, values that are fundamental to maintaining harmony in Sarawak’s multi-racial and multi-religious society.
He stressed that the people of Sarawak should continue to appreciate and preserve the spirit of unity and mutual respect that has become a hallmark of the State.
“Amid current challenges, including global economic uncertainties, rapid technological changes, as well as humanitarian and environmental issues, the values of togetherness and consensus must be further strengthened so that society can face every challenge in a united and mature manner,” he said.
Tun Wan Junaidi also described Sarawak’s rich diversity of races, cultures and faiths as a valuable asset that must be safeguarded for the wellbeing of future generations.
He expressed hope that this year’s Wesak Day celebration would not only be observed with gratitude, but also serve as a platform to strengthen community bonds while encouraging more charitable acts and humanitarian values.
Tun Wan Junaidi and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, who are currently in the Holy Land performing the haj pilgrimage, also extended Wesak Day greetings to Buddhists in Sarawak and throughout Malaysia.
They further prayed that all Buddhists celebrating Wesak Day would be blessed with wellbeing, happiness, good health and a peaceful and meaningful life with their loved ones. — DayakDaily
