KUCHING, Jan 26: United States Ambassador to Malaysia HE Edgard D Kagan has praised Sarawak’s political stability and the pace of its comprehensive development under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Kagan made the remarks during a farewell call on the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, which took place at Kasuma Resort, Petra Jaya here, at 11am today.
Tun Wan Junaidi, accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, received Kagan, who was joined by United States Embassy spokesperson James Dewey and Sarawak Regional Office director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dato Fenny Nuli.
During the meeting, both sides discussed various strategic initiatives of mutual interest, including cooperation in the green economy and renewable energy sectors, in line with Sarawak’s emergence as a clean energy hub in Southeast Asia.
Kagan also reaffirmed the United States Embassy’s commitment to continue serving as a strategic partner in supporting Sarawak’s aspiration to achieve developed state status.
Before concluding the meeting, Kagan expressed his appreciation to Tun Wan Junaidi for the close cooperation, openness and generosity in sharing insights and advice throughout his tenure and diplomatic engagement in Malaysia.
Tun Wan Junaidi, in turn, expressed hope that diplomatic and economic relations between the United States and Malaysia, particularly with Sarawak, would continue to be strengthened, with a focus on the state’s ongoing rapid and sustainable development. — DayakDaily
