KUCHING, May 29: The Yayasan Wakaf Sarawak (YWS) has proposed the establishment of the Sarawak Waqf Sustainability Fund (SWSF) to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during a courtesy call at the Satria Pertiwi Complex here today.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) report, the courtesy call, led by YWS Board of Trustees chairman, Dato Sri Abang Abdul Karim Tun Datuk Abang Openg, was to strengthen the strategic relationship between the Sarawak government and YWS while discussing the future development of waqf in Sarawak in a more sustainable, progressive, and high-impact manner.
The Premier was also updated on the YWS’s waqf development initiatives, including the management and development of waqf assets, social development programmes for the Muslim community, and plans for strategic projects that could provide long-term benefits to the people of Sarawak.
Among those present were Sarawak Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU, and Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi; Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) president, Datuk Misnu Taha; and YWS chief executive officer (CEO), Abang Faisal Abang Marzuki.
Meanwhile, in a separate report, the Premier also witnessed the presentation of business zakat amounting to RM3 million from the Bintulu Port Authority (BPA) and Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd (SAINS) to Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) at the same venue today.

Photo: UkasThe BPA presented RM2 million in business zakat, which was presented by its chairman, Dato Sharkawi Alis, while SAINS presented RM1 million by its deputy chairman, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Dato Husain, which was also witnessed by its chairman, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam. Both were presented to Misnu.
