BINTULU, July 18: Three men suspected of distributing drugs at an entertainment centre, were arrested at 12.15am on Wednesday (July 17).
In a news report by TVS, Bintulu District police chief Superintendent Nixon Joshua Ali stated that the suspects, aged between 31 and 43, were apprehended by the Narcotics Department.
“The three suspects are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possessing two plastic packets suspected to contain ecstasy powder weighing approximately 50 grammes, one transparent plastic packet containing 59 ecstasy pills weighing 17.7 grammes, and 10 transparent plastic packets containing crystalline substances suspected to be ketamine weighing five grammes.
“Initial police screenings revealed that all the suspects tested positive for methamphetamine and are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said in a statement today.
Nixon added that initial investigations suggested that the drugs, intended for distribution around the entertainment centre area in Bintulu, could be used by 50 addicts.
If convicted of drug possession under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, they could face the death penalty, or life imprisonment and no less than 15 strokes of the cane.
If convicted under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, they could be fined up to RM5,000 or imprisoned for up to two years and placed under supervision for two years.
Nixon emphasised that the arrests were part of the police’s efforts to combat drug abuse and prevent criminal activities in Bintulu. — DayakDaily
