SANTUBONG: Preparations for the Borneo Songwak Water Festival, scheduled for July 26 to 28, are progressing smoothly.
According to Abang Azizan Iliya, founder of the Borneo Songwak Water Festival, his team has already begun preparations to welcome visitors.
“Preparations for the canopies and other arrangements started today (July 20) and are expected to be completed by Thursday. We will conduct sound checks and finalise the stage setup,” he announced at a press conference held at the Sarawak Cultural Village here on Saturday.
He also mentioned that ticket sales for the festival have been successful so far.
“We’ve already had an estimated 6,000 people over the three days. Ticket sales are ongoing, and we are aiming to reach at least 9,000 attendees,” he added.
According to him, tickets have been purchased not only by locals but also by international visitors from Singapore, Indonesia, and Peninsular Malaysia.
Attendees of the Borneo Songwak Water Festival can also enjoy the We Are Here (WAH) festival at Damai Central. However, holders of WAH tickets cannot access to the Sarawak Cultural Village during the festival.
The event will also feature activities such as fish release and tree planting, led by Mark Ferguson, CEO of Hemisphere Corporation Sdn. Bhd.
The Borneo Songwak Water Festival distinguishes itself as Sarawak’s inaugural music event combining elements of a water festival and an eco-friendly music festival, in line with sustainability principles promoted by the Sarawak government.
Spanning three days, the festival promises a vibrant celebration of lifestyle and music, offering a unique experience in Borneo. Activities include water-themed fun, outdoor clubbing, and eco-conscious food festivities, making it a standout event.
