KUCHING, Jan 21: The Batang Saribas 2 Bridge is expected to be opened to traffic this November, a move set to significantly improve connectivity and shorten travel time for residents in surrounding areas.

In a TVS report, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the bridge project is a strategic piece of infrastructure that will play a key role in boosting socio-economic activities in the region.

“This bridge will ease the movement of residents, facilitate the transportation of goods, and support local economic development.

“It is one of the State’s key projects that we are closely monitoring,” he said in a statement posted on the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR Sarawak) Facebook page following a working visit to the project site in Betong yesterday (Jan 20).

Uggah, who is also Sarawak Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, said construction progress has reached 80.50 per cent and remains on schedule.

He added that the site visit also provided an opportunity for him to receive briefings from the project implementation team on the current status, challenges on the ground, and planning for the remaining works until full completion.

According to him, continuous monitoring is crucial to ensure the project is completed in accordance with safety standards and technical specifications.

“The State government is committed to ensuring this project is implemented efficiently and with quality, and that it delivers long-term benefits to the people,” he said.

The bridge project is being implemented by JKR Sarawak under the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development, with the aim of providing modern and safe transportation facilities for the local community.

Once opened, the Batang Saribas area is expected to see improved mobility for residents and increased economic activity, supporting Sarawak’s overall development agenda. — DayakDaily
