BINTULU: Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (Bintulu Port) hosted the third series of the ‘Bintulu Port KomunitiKu Sayang’ programme at Kampung Uma Sambop, Batu Pilau, here on June 28-29.

The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at strengthening ties with the local community through various beneficial activities.

One of the main objectives of this programme was to build strong networks of cooperation and promote values such as community spirit, volunteerism, and unity.

This third series followed the successful first event held at Kampung Tambak, Pusa last year and the second series on June 22 at Taman Sri Pelabuhan Sepait, here.

Bintulu Port Group chief executive officer Ruslan Abdul Ghani hoped the collaboration between the company and the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak for the Persatuan Penduduk Asal Sungai Belaga will positively impact the Kampung Uma Sambop community, particularly in enhancing fire safety measures.

As part of this collaboration, a Volunteer Fire Brigade has been established in Kampung Uma Sambop.

Bomba Sarawak acting director Tiong Ling Hii, expressed strong support for the establishment of the Volunteer Fire Brigade in Kampung Uma Sambop.

He also encouraged residents to apply their fire fighting knowledge effectively to quickly and efficiently control fires should they occur in the future.

The Ministry of Utility and Communication and Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) also shared information on electrical wiring regulations and the safe use of electrical appliances.

Additionally, Allianz Insurance provided a briefing on the KampungKu insurance protection scheme.

The programme also saw 200 participants engage in various fire safety briefings and practical training sessions.

These included longhouse fire safety protocols, building evacuation procedures, hose deployment techniques, fire fighting simulations (mock drills), and the proper use of fire fighting equipment.

Participants were also trained on using fire extinguishers, and handling LPG gas cylinder and kitchen fires.

As part of their CSR initiative, Bintulu Port also donated 30 units of 9kg ABC Dry Powder fire extinguishers, a PA system, and four fans to Kampung Uma Sambop through the Bintulu Port Prihatin CSR programme.
