Bintulu Port marks MTT Bintangor’s maiden voyage, inaugural call

BINTULU (July 17): Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB) commemorated the maiden voyage and inaugural call of MTT Bintangor at Bintulu Port yesterday.

BPHB said the 1,836 TEU (20-foot equivalent unit) vessel represents one of 12 additions to MTT Shipping’s fleet this year.

“MTT Bintangor boasts a Mitsubishi Eco LSH series Tier III engine, equipped with an advanced electronic control system that optimises fuel efficiency and significantly reduces exhaust gas emissions.

“This commitment to sustainable maritime operations aligns seamlessly with the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) environmental goals of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050,” BPHB said in a statement.

Since its inception in 2010, MTT Shipping has evolved from a newcomer to Malaysia’s largest homegrown container operator.

Currently ranked 58th in Alphaliner’s global rankings, MTT Shipping now operates a fleet of 21 vessels, including the recent addition of MTT Bintangor.

The vessel’s first official cruise into the sea marks a significant milestone, demonstrating MTT Shipping’s dedication to innovation within the maritime industry.

Guests were also given a tour of the ship by Capt Cheang Keng Ha, marking its first official voyage and demonstrating maritime industry innovation.

Among those that present were BPHB Group chief executive officer Ruslan Abdul Ghani, BPHB chief operating officer Matshalleh Mohamad Etli, MTT Shipping Sdn Bhd Bintulu branch manager Anthony Chin, as well as BPHB Group Corporate Services senior manager Maslihah Tioh and senior manager of Equipment Maintenance Eddy Noriman Hossain.
