Cops bust duo stealing cables at telco sub-station in Bau

KUCHING (July 16): Two men were caught red-handed stealing cables from a telecommunication sub-station at Jalan Kampung Suba Buan in Bau on Monday.

Bau police chief DSP Jawai Francis Kempas said a team conducting ‘Op Lusuh’ checks came across a suspicious-looking car parked at the sub-station around 1.30pm.

“Upon further checking the area, police found two suspects inside the sub-station, along with a roll of cable that had been cut,” she said in a statement today.

She said the suspects, aged 27 and 36, were later found to have past records involving drugs.

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which provides up to seven years’ imprisonment and a fine, upon conviction.
