IGP Khalid Ismail said police will issue an official statement if there are any new developments on the whereabouts of fugitive businessman Jho Low.
KUALA LUMPUR:

Police will take appropriate action to verify a claim that fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, or Jho Low, was in the country at the end of last year.

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail said police have yet to confirm whether the allegation is true.

“Appropriate action is being taken to determine whether the matter is true or not. We haven’t verified it yet.

“Investigations are ongoing, and we will ensure the process is carried out properly and smoothly,” he told reporters at an Autism Day celebration here today.

Khalid was commenting on a Sarawak Report article alleging that Jho Low attended a secret meeting in Malaysia with a Chinese delegation at the end of last year.

He said police would issue an official statement if there are any new developments.

Low faces multiple charges, including corruption and money laundering, in the US and Malaysia over the key role he allegedly played in the misappropriation of at least US$4.5 billion (RM17.69 billion) from 1MDB.

He has consistently denied wrongdoing and his whereabouts are unknown.
