KUCHING, 12 Oct: Sarawak Budget 2027 focuses on state development and people's well-being, while reflecting the state government's ability to manage finances efficiently with projected revenues exceeding RM15 billion.
Deputy Prime Minister of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said that the budget reflects the commitment of the Government of Sarawak to channel state revenues to finance development projects and implement initiatives that directly benefit the people.
"This initiative is also based on the people, with benefits provided to all sections of society.
"From the RM15 billion revenue, total spending for next year is estimated to be around RM14.8 billion to RM14.9 billion. However, the most important thing is that Sarawak's development allocations are much larger than the Federal Budget", he said.
He said this during a press conference after the presentation of Sarawak Budget 2027 at the Sarawak State Assembly (DUN) Conference, here today.
Reviewing the state's long-term financial plans, Dr Sim explained that allocation to the Sarawak Commonwealth Future Wealth Fund is important in ensuring a portion of the state revenue can be saved to ensure benefits for future generations.
In the meantime, he said, the budget also addressed people's needs through continuous education assistance, efforts to reduce living costs and health benefits for Golden citizens.
Additionally, the electricity bill discount initiative can also help alleviate the financial burden of households, especially those with low and medium incomes.
"For example, electricity consumption of 450 kilowatt hours per month can cost about RM100 in Sarawak, compared to around RM150 in Peninsular Malaysia.
"With a 25% discount, consumers with RM100 electricity bills will save RM25 per month", he said.
Dr Sim said the approach proves that Sarawak's development agenda is not only focused on physical development, but also covers aspects of people welfare and well-being.
