SIBU (Aug 3): Five community-based rehabilitation organisations (PPDK) in the Sibu division have received financial assistance of almost RM1.9 million from the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry (KPWKM).

The recipients include PPDK Murni in Dudong, PPDK Sibu, PPDK Nur Qaseh in Nangka and PPDK Permai, all in Sibu district, and PPDK Muhibbah in Bawan, Kanowit district.

The aid covers allowances for trainers of persons with disabilities (PwD), Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) contributions, trainee allowances, rental payments and utilities.

The financial assistance was presented by Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri at the official opening of the PPDK Permai here today.

Nancy said the aid aims to ensure the smooth operation of daily programmes and activities at PPDKs, including rehabilitation and development programmes with active involvement from families and the local community.

The Santubong MP said the PPDK programme is a strategy for community development, focusing on the rehabilitation, training, education, social integration and equal opportunity given to persons with disabilities.

She said 55 PPDKs in Sarawak have received government grant allocations totalling RM13,774,230 this year, which represents an increase of 19 per cent or RM2,247,023 this year to accommodate the rise in PPDK trainee allowances from RM150 per month to RM300 per month. – Bernama
