MIRI (Aug 6): Miri Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) and CanHope Kuching will jointly hold a community health awareness talk at Imperial Palace Hotel here this Saturday (Aug 10), with the session to commence at 1.15pm.
This upcoming programme, which is part of their annual activities, will feature Dr Foo Kian Fong, a senior consultant, medical oncologist and physician at Parkway Cancer Centre Singapore, as a speaker.
The expert, who will be discussing ‘Risk Factors and Prevention of Liver Cancer’ in his presentation, specialises in cancer types that affect the gastrointestinal tract such as oesophagus, stomach, pancreas, the intestines, neuroendocrine, biliary tract and anal canal.
His field also includes studies on cancers affecting the nasopharynx, lungs, kidneys and prostate.
Previously, Dr Foo was a senior consultant at National Cancer Singapore’s Department of Medical Oncology, as well as a clinical teacher in medicine at the National University of Singapore. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncologists, European Society of Medical Oncologists and the Hong Kong College of Physicians.
A Health Manpower Development Programme 2001 award recipient, the expert has published many articles on cancers affecting the nasopharynx, lungs, liver, stomach and colon, in peer-reviewed journals.
Another speaker is Dr Kim Guo Wei, a senior consultant and a surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.
His field covers upper-gastrointestinal surgeries including those linked to oesophageal and gastric cancers, metabolic and bariatric surgeries, minimally invasive (single incision) surgeries, robotic surgeries, as well as diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.
Dr Kim is also proficient in performing anti-reflux, hernia and gallbladder surgeries.
Entry to the community health talk is free, but tickets should be acquired first by registering with the MCCCI secretariat. However, those interested to attend must act quick as seats are limited and come on first-come, first-served basis.
