Internet speed at BCCK upgraded to 2 Gbps for Malaysia Day

KUCHING, Sept 16: The Ministry of Communications has assured seamless internet connectivity at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), upgrading bandwidth speeds to 2 Gigabits per second (Gbps) to support over 5,000 guests and media personnel attending the Malaysia Day 2026 celebration.

Deputy Minister of Communications, Teo Nie Ching said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), alongside major telecommunication service providers, initiated on-site network infrastructure preparations on Sunday.

“To ensure all guests and media representatives enjoy high-speed connectivity tonight, several temporary enhancement measures have been executed.

“This includes setting up indoor Access Points and deploying Cell on Wheels (COW) mobile base stations.

“Telekom Malaysia (TM) has also upgraded the internet speed to 2 Gbps, exceeding the initial plan of 800 Megabits per second (Mbps),” Teo told reporters after inspecting the BCCK Network Operations Centre (NOC) here on Wednesday.

Addressing social media monitoring, Teo emphasized that MCMC remains vigilant alongside law enforcement to safeguard public order throughout the national event.

“MCMC is also working closely with the Royal Malaysia Police to monitor and take action against any social media posts involving 3R issues: Race, Religion, and Royalty, to maintain peace and harmony throughout the celebration,” she said.

Meanwhile, Teo extended appreciation to key industry players, including TM, CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, XOX, and Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), for their strategic cooperation in securing network stability for the national event. – TVS
